If you already know what type of item you’re looking for, determine the highest price you’re willing to pay to take that item home. For instance, if you’re looking for a new sofa, plan on how much you want to pay for it. Keep this number in mind for negotiating when you head out to the sale.

Now that you’ve made it to the sale, it’s time to look around for items you’re interested in buying. Before the sale opens, you’ll have to stand in line before entering the sale. If you go the day the estate sale opens, you’ll have a very low chance of getting a price that’s significantly lower than the asking price. You’ll also have much more competition from other potential buyers that are also making offers. It never hurts to try  to negotiate on the first day, or get your offer in on a bid sheet, but you may not have much luck.
